Night Astronomy Telescopes Mounts & Observing

In addition to using the large telescopes in the Little Thompson Observatory, you will also have the opportunity to use a number of smaller more portable telescopes.  While there are many different types of telescopes, we will focus on three of the more common types you will be using.

1. Refractor Telescope

2. Reflector or Newtonian Telescope

3. Schmidt Cassegrain or (SCT) Telescope

The quality of viewing through a telescope is often limited my the quality of the telescope mount.  A strong solid telescope mount is essential to view the night sky with a telescope.  The most common types of telescope mounts we will be using are found on the link below.
